Check the extent of the outage and follow your utility and local authorities.
First steps
- Use a flashlight, conserve phone battery, and keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed where possible. Plan ahead for powered medical equipment.
Power and heating
- Never use a generator indoors or in a garage. Follow the manufacturer and official guidance for outdoor placement. Unplug sensitive equipment to prevent sudden operation when power returns.
